SERVICE TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION

• Inspects, repairs, and maintains fire safety equipment and systems in accordance with applicable fire codes.  Working conditions include restricted movement, lifting, or carrying heavy objects.

EXAMPLES OF POTENTIAL DUTIES
• Inspects, repairs, and tests fire extinguishers using hand tools, hydrostatic test equipment, and monitoring devices.
• Dismantles extinguishers and examines mechanical parts, extinguisher agents, and expelling means; replaces worn or damaged parts.
• Cleans extinguishers and recharges them with approved materials.
• Inspects, tests, and repairs equipment such as portable fire extinguishers, pre-engineered fire systems, as well as exit and emergency lighting.
• To maintain company-issued vehicle keeping the interior clean and well organized and adequately supplied with the necessary tools, parts, and equipment to perform each day’s work.
• Present a professional, well groomed appearance daily wearing only Preventive Fire & Safety Equipment issued or otherwise approved uniform.
• To perform all assigned service in a timely manner completing each month’s assigned jobs no later than the last day of each month unless otherwise permitted by management.
• To discipline and self manage oneself so as to meet or exceed production and revenue quotas each month
• To prospect for new business as required turning the New Account Prospect Sheet into the office completed both completely and accurately.
• To attend and positively participate in all company meetings when requested to do so.
• To attend all on and off site training as deemed necessary by management including, but not limited to, FFEDA and NAFED training and / or trade show events.
• To promote Preventive Fire & Safety, both internally and externally, speaking positively about all aspects of the company, its customers, its staff and its policies.
• To promote and execute smooth interactions between the various departments within Preventive Fire & Safety interacting at all times in a cooperative and professional manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Skill in the inspection, repair, maintenance, and testing techniques for fire safety equipment and systems.

SERVICE TECHNICIAN JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Lifting (unassisted) up to 75 pounds.
• Carrying (over uneven terrain or navigating stairs) up to 45 pounds.
• Walking long distances (up to 1 mile) and/or standing for periods up to 1 hour.
• Installing (mounting/hanging) equipment up to 6 feet above working platform.
• Performing testing functions requiring simultaneous, dual operations.
• Good driving record (i.e. continuous driver’s license for 4 years and 2 or less moving violations over the past 4 years).
• Familiarity and ability to use hand tools. (wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, saws, files, clamps, and wire cutters/strippers, etc.).
• Familiarity and ability to operate power tools and power operated fastening tools. (drills, saw-all, Hilti/hammer-drill and piston tools).
• Ability to understand and perform intermediate mathematical calculations.(addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages and adding/subtracting/multiplying factions).
• Ability to understand and perform basic geometric calculations.(area and volume).
• Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions in English.
• Ability to legibly write in English.
• Ability to identify small labels (fire extinguisher) at 3 feet.
• Ability to read, understand and follow the codes, rules, regulations, statutes, and all laws of the State of Florida.
• Ability to work in small or confined spaces.
• Ability to work a variable schedule to meet customer’s convenience (i.e. nights, weekends and/or holidays).
• Ability to differentiate and identify colors.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
• Two (2) years of experience in the testing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of fire safety equipment.
• Dealing with all customers and prospective customers in a completely ethical manner with uncompromised honesty and integrity.
• To produce and handle all company paperwork neatly, accurately and promptly.
• To manage and be held accountable for all company issued equipment (fire extinguishers, parts, tools) on the Preventive Fire & Safety Equipment service vehicle.
